Services:

The Howard County Health Department in partnership with the Howard County Public School System operates nine school-based wellness centers. Six of the centers provide health care utilizing telemedicine where real-time images and sounds are transmitted to and from the schools through a secure server where the medical provider is located either at the Howard County General Pediatric Emergency Room or at two community practices, Columbia Medical Practice and Klebanow and Associates. The majority of the visits are for common, acute pediatric health problems, but this model of care can also provide management of chronic health problems such as asthma, obesity, and ADHD. Three of the sites, Bollman Bridge Elementary, Patuxent Valley Middle, and Wilde Lake High, have a traditional model of health care provision with a medical provider on-site to provide comprehensive services, including: preventive care, diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic health problems, and health education. Mental health services are provided by University of Maryland clinicians at Bollman Bridge and Patuxent Valley Middle.
